Pet stores sell rats who have been irresponsibly bred from sick and/or unsocialized parents. They do not know how to sex rats, so they send pregnant pet rats home with parents, uneducated about rats, who think they've found an easy small pet for their child(ren). When the child tires of the rat, or the rat(s) start having babies, anxious parents look for a way to get rid of them.
We are here to take care of the ill-treated rats and make the public aware of this problem.
We provide 24/7, lifetime care for rescued rats including free-range time and excellent food, bedding and health care. Our volunteers massage, exercise and otherwise take care of sick rats.
We encourage the public: not to own snakes that have to eat live food and not to buy pet rats from pet stores. We encourage potential rat owners to research the time and costs involved in keeping them before making a decision.
We adopt responsibly.
Most recently we have taken in 2 guinea pigs from Guinea Pigs and Friends Sanctuary in Caldwell Idaho. The rats and guinea pigs, though not allowed in the same pens, are enriched by having each other in the room. Though we do not adopt out guinea pigs, we do refer adopters and those who want to surrender to the Caldwell sanctuary.
Sorry, NO. Please do not contact the owner and ask about shipping guinea pigs. It is NOT possible. Please look for guinea pigs LOCAL to you! That's what this site is for--helping you find a guinea pig close to home to adopt and love.
Yes, that one is adorable and looks just like the one you must have for your very important reason or you will not be able to go on living. But, there are many more in your area that are just as wonderful. Perhaps they are not listed here, but they can be found. The piggy in need waiting for you near your own back yard might look a little different, but could melt your heart anyway!
